WE SHALL KNOW OUR VELOCITY — January 15, 2007

Nikon D200: 85mm, 1/500 f/2.4 | 85mm, 1/400, 2.4

Thanks to all for commenting. This photo required three essential elements: a camera, some bread, and a (patient) Better Half™ to distribute aforementioned bread. As some of you may know, I live in Victoria, BC, which is mile zero in Canada (depending on your perspective); right on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. Every morning I drive along the ocean & pass a very beautiful tree with yellow foliage. Many birds gather in a small pond beside the tree; all of which is atop a bluff above the Pacific. This past weekend I wanted to capture this scene & what resulted were these two photos & the last entry. I realize the end result doesn't represent the description nor the intent but often with my picture-making I stumble into happy accidents. This is such a picture.

  1. Great pictures, especially the wings on the upper picture look great. Black and gold go well together.

  9. The colour treatment is just great. I love the abstract theme and these images are full of intrigue for me make me very curious about the story behind the idea and the execution.

  13. You’ve got some great work here. I enjoy this one quite a bit, it’s got some great forms and the colors do well together. Now when do we get to see the fabulous Victoria coastline?

  14. Great focus! I like the colors too and how the bird stems out (if that is actually a word)

  16. Really nice images, I think they work well together as a diptych. I like that the body of the bird is in complete shadow, with the wonderful detail of the wing. Well done!
