Wonderful symbolism in a minimal context. I can’t tell if the bird is 2008 on it’s way out or 2009 coming in, but I guess that’s up to the eye of the beholder.
Impressive. (It reminded me of that photograph : http://www.beaucoupdimages.com/2008/12/this-is-your-land.html ; they are the exact opposite, in the concept. )
Your bird has no homeland, and the feeling that comes out of it is quite disturbing. And I love it ! But the title makes me think you didn’t see it that way.
I find it interesting that people are judging perfection in a photograph by technical means such as sharpness, rule of thirds, etc… IMHO, this is missing what a photograph is truly about. If every photo were perfect, it would be like reading Disckinson or Hemingway bereft of their signature prose. No need to be perfect if you’re not shooting to be perfect, but good. There is a difference.

Interesting minimalistic composition. Helps us imagine a bit of what life might be for a bird during the long flights over the sea. Superb.
I bookmarked your amazing blog and am looking forward to your new work ;-)
